Just wondering if anybody has any advice on building a seven string. if there are any tips or things to watch out for that are different than a six string build? Like if I have to use a different trust rod or possibly a slightly longer neck

Multi-scale is super useful on extended range guitars.

The longer the scale and thinner gage your 7th string has the better chance it has of sounding bright enough to blend with the rest of the strings.

Otherwise it’s hard to avoid the 7th string sounding very dull and thumping like an upright bass.

That makes total sense. I have a dingwall and I had an ormsby 7 string, that unfortunately I had to sell, but i always felt the ormsby had a smoother low end then any other 7 string i played
